Children aged 5 to 11 years old are free of charge (must be min. 2 adults accompanying). Children 12 and older pay adult price.

This half day walk covers 9 km and starts and ends at Nkhila Lodge. It offers an opportunity to enjoy the stunning desert scenery of the Eastern Agafay Desert and N'fis River Valley at your own pace. Choose your time of departure and one of Nkhila's local guides will accompany you on this 3 to 4 hour circuit. The scenery is diverse from a high plateau hill viewpoint to a seasonal riverbed shaded by impressive rock formations. As well as seeing an ancient marabout (shrine), we pass through two small douars (villages) and enjoy several nice views of the camp and distant Atlas mountains en route. Keep an eye open for desert wildlife and nature. On our last recce of this walk we spotted a huge Berber toad, desert fox footprints, butterflies and more!

TYPICAL ITINERARY

0900   Depart Nkhila Lodge; head south towards High Atlas.

0920   Follow dry riverbed and gorge through eastern Agafay Desert.

1030   Reach N'fis River valley and follow piste north skirting edge of Agafay.

1130   Follow dirt road in westerly direction through Agafay to Nkhila village.

1300   Arrive back at Nkhila Lodge.

Timings indicated should be used as a rough guide and may vary depending on season, snack or picnic lunch breaks and photo stops. Start time may vary.

DEPARTS ON REQUEST

This half day walk operates on request through the year on a private departure basis.

DON'T FORGET

Take some warm clothing in winter months as it can be chilly on the plateau.
